About the city of Goa

Goa is the smallest state in India & is cherished by the tourists. It is located in the coastal Konkan region on the bank of Arabian Sea. Beaches in Goa are the temptation of the state, where one can relax and soothe. There are many religious places like churches and temple that are also very famous here.
Goa is known for its fascinating landscapes, beaches, overwhelming monuments & churches and the dashing nightlife. It is one of the most visited tourist places in India, especially by the youngsters. The place is crowded on the weekend due to its nearness to Mumbai. It attracts an enormous amount of tourists across the globe, Panaji is the capital, and Vasco Da Gama is the largest city in Goa.
The place is also famous for its rich cultural history and luscious food. And the flea markets are the great attraction for International Tourists.

History of Goa

After the independence of India on 15th August 1947, it was proposed to Portugal to abandon it holding in Goa and other parts of India. By the time, even the French had given up their expanse; namely Pondicherry to India without much detention. However, Portugal repelled to do so and perhaps modifies its constitution to domicile Goa as a Portuguese province.
In 1954, Indians tried to rebel by striving to small land-locked lands in Dadra and Nagar Haveli. And they got stormed by the Portuguese who reported a complaint in the international court of Justice. In 1960, discernment announced that the Portuguese had the complete control over the enclaves although India had the right to refuse the entry of Portuguese in Goan enclaves.
Satyagrahis made attempts to revolt against the Portuguese. However, they were enforced to run away because of the increase causalities day after day.
On 19 December 1961, Indian military moved across the Goan borders and besieged Portuguese under the codename ‘Operation Vijay’. There were continuous air firing, navy and army stricken for about 36 hours which concluded with surrender by the Portuguese. The U.N., USA and UK criticised the attack, but Russia was a pro for it.
And the Goa was then stated as the federally administered territory. It got the proper statehood in 1987. Therefore, every year Goa celebrates 19th December as “Liberation Day.”
